今回は 仮定法で用いる「 A がなかったら」 ついて説明をします。
「 A がなかったら」を意味する表現は4つあります。if を用いないものには without A と but for A があります。if を用いるものには if it were not for A と if it had not been for A があります。
 
＜ without A ＞
without A は仮定法過去・仮定法過去完了の両方に使うことができます。
Without your help, I would not have succeeded.
「あなたの助けがなかったら、私は成功しなかっただろう」
 
上の例文では、仮定法過去完了の文で without が使われています。
 
＜ but for A ＞
but for A も without A と同様に、仮定法過去・仮定法過去完了の両方に使うことができます。
But for your help, I would not be able to do this job.
「あなたの助けがなかったら、私はこの仕事をすることができないだろう」
 
上の例文では、仮定法過去の文で but for が使われています。

if it were not for A は 仮定法過去の英文に使います。
If it were not for your help, I would not be able to do this job.
「あなたの助けがなかったら、私はこの仕事をすることができないだろう」
 
＜ if it had not been for A ＞
if it had not been for A は仮定法過去・仮定法過去完了の両方に使うことができます。ただし、仮定法過去完了の英文で使われることの方が多いです。
If it had not been for your help, I would not have succeeded.
「あなたの助けがなかったら、私は成功しなかっただろう」
